DISC is a volunteer group which provides a focus for ratepayers, businesses and organisations opposed to incineration of waste in North Yorkshire.

We use the extensive skills of local volunteers with considerable experience of waste, planning, the law and logistics to oppose incineration on the following basis:-

Incineration is an end of pipe solution - it does nothing to encourage

-better packaging design

-reduced consumption

-reuse of materials

-recycling of products

-rethinking of the waste process

Incineration is highly capital intensive and creates few jobs therefore binding ratepayers to a single course of action over the next 25 years.

It also destroys jobs (in recycling) and creativity which we as a modern nation need.
